Vampire Vanity

vanityDracSometimes a quick sketch just does it and you feel that you’ll lose most of the freshness if you attempt to do anything to it. I love this little doodle bu that’ll teach me to sketch on lined paper though!

The Whiff-Waff

boris-batThe 3rd Yr Graphic Arts students at John Moores Uni are fundraising for their degree show by hosting the second of their ‘Ping Pong Parties’ where you get given a bat to customise and then play against the staff and students. My design is focused on the great promoter of the sport – Boris Johnson.

whiff-waffI’ve toyed with the idea of doing something graphical and photographic playing with the idea of his somewhat childish approach and how he got his history confused at the olympic handover. Or i’m simply going to give Boris the One Eyed Monster Treatment.

I’ll laser etch the design onto the bat when it’s ready and post it up here!

One Eyed Monsters on Society6

society6

I’m in the process of uploading the set of One Eyed Monsters to the Society6 site – essentially you post your artwork and they will then print it on all manner of products and ship it to whoever orders – supply on demand. This is a great set up (obviously they take their cut) but it means i don’t have to have an outlay for stock and can expand the images to a wider range! So if you want a zombie on a cushion or a seamonster on your iPhone then pop along to my Society – http://society6.com/justHooper

The Monster Alphabet

One Eyed Monsters – an A-Z

I did experiment with some screenprinting

This is a self directed project i worked on last year – i wanted to set myself the task of completing a series of images based around a set of simple rules.

Monster creations are in my blood and so that easily became the theme and an Alphabet seemed like a definitive structure that would give me an overall target and variation between each image. I latched onto the phrase ‘one eyed monsters’ regardless of it’s ‘other’ connotations and felt it was a good title under which to bring the creations together.

The Rules i followed were that they all had to utilize the same component – the single eye – and only have two colours to them.

So with an exploration of myth and legend, a heavy dose of symmetry and where i could a smidgen of humour i created 26 beasts of slight inadequacy (i always liked the notion of a monster being born into a role it wasn’t actually cut out to do!)

I’m going to post them all as a gallery – but they are all available as digital prints at my ETSY store – Very Reasonable If You Like!
